A Food Lovers Guide to Padstow: Where to Eat in Cornwall from Paul Ainsworth to Rick Stein to Macdonalds farm

If you’re heading to Padstow, come hungry. For a small Cornish harbour town it punches far above its weight, offering everything from Michelin-starred dining and legendary seafood restaurants to beach cafés, wine bars and family-friendly gems. Recent restaurant round-ups and traveller reviews continue to rank Padstow as one of the UK's premier food destinations, with several establishments consistently appearing among the highest-rated restaurants in Cornwall.

1. Paul Ainsworth at No. 6

The Special Occasion Choice

If there is one restaurant that defines modern Padstow dining, it is Paul Ainsworth at No. 6. Holding a Michelin star and regularly receiving some of the highest ratings in town, it is widely regarded as one of Cornwall’s finest dining experiences. Diners consistently praise the tasting menus, local Cornish produce and inventive cooking.

Perfect for: Anniversaries, celebrations and serious foodies.

2. Prawn on the Lawn

This Seafood Lover's Favourite

Prawn on the Lawn frequently appears near the top of Padstow’s restaurant scene. Reviewers rave about its fresh seafood, oysters, scallops, monkfish and innovative small-plate approach. Its only got about 20 seats, but the atmosphere is always fantastic, the staff are brilliant and you may well see Gordon Ramsay in there if he pops in for lunch

Must try: Whatever Johnny Murt the local fisherman has caught that day

3. The Seafood Restaurant

The Rick Stein Classic

No Padstow food guide would be complete without Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant helped put Padstow on the culinary map and remains a pilgrimage destination for seafood lovers. It continues to feature prominently in visitor rankings and remains one of the best-known restaurants in Cornwall.

Best for: Classic fish dishes and a quintessential Padstow experience.

4. Caffè Rojano

Fantastic Value from Paul Ainsworth

If No. 6 is booked or beyond the budget, head for Caffè Rojano. The restaurant receives consistently strong reviews for its Italian-inspired menu, pizzas, arancini and relaxed atmosphere.

It delivers much of the same attention to quality as Ainsworth’s flagship restaurant but at a more accessible price point.

5. BinTwo

The Hidden Gem

A favourite among repeat visitors, BinTwo combines excellent wines, sharing boards and a relaxed atmosphere overlooking the harbour. Reviewers frequently highlight the knowledgeable service and carefully selected wine list.

Perfect for: Pre-dinner drinks that turn into dinner.

6. Best Food Pubs

Cornish Arms at St Merryn, Mariners at Rock

Both highly in demand, both owned by famous chefs, but serving traditional food, cooked brilliantly.

Rick Stein and family own The Cornish, they have a great restaurant menu including fish, pies, curries, and in the winter, brilliant roasts.

Paul Ainsworth owns The Mariners at Rock, and again the menu is full of traditional favourites like Shepherds Pie and fish and chips, but it also has Porthilly Oysters ( from 50 meters away) and Monkfish

Perfect for: Families and relaxed evenings after a day on the coastal path.

7. Fire & Smoke at Macdonald's Farm

Best for: Relaxed family dining after a day on the beach.

Nestled at Macdonald's Farm near Porthcothan Bay, Fire & Smoke is one of North Cornwall's best-kept foodie secrets. The Smoke Shack serves authentic slow-cooked BBQ, wood-fired pizzas and hearty breakfasts in a laid-back farm setting. If you're staying at Macdonald's Farm, this isn't just somewhere to eat, it's part of the experience. Expect local ingredients, live music on selected evenings and some of the best brisket you'll find between Padstow and Newquay. In the winter, their Sunday Roasts are quite honestly the best I've ever had. Served on large wooden boards, from all local ingredients

New for 2026: St Enodoc Hotel, Rock

Paul Ainsworth's Most Ambitious Project Yet

Just across the Camel Estuary from Padstow in Rock, the newly relaunched St Enodoc Hotel is quickly becoming one of Cornwall's most talked-about destinations. Paul and Emma Ainsworth reopened the landmark hotel in July 2026 following a major refurbishment, adding two new dining concepts and creating what many are already describing as a year-round destination for food lovers.

Estuary Grill

The headline restaurant at the hotel is Estuary Grill by Paul Ainsworth, celebrating the very best of Cornish land and sea. Expect dry-aged Cornish meats from Philip Warren Butchers, locally landed fish and seafood, and open-fire cooking on a bespoke Asado grill. The menu also reflects Paul's Seychellois heritage with Indian Ocean-inspired flavours woven throughout. The restaurant enjoys spectacular views across the Camel Estuary back towards Padstow.

Best for: Long lunches, sunset dinners and special occasions without the formality of Michelin-starred dining.

Flour Garden

For something more relaxed, the Flour Garden offers hand-stretched Neapolitan pizzas, salads, pastries, coffee and ice cream in the landscaped gardens. It is designed to be family-friendly and accessible, making it an excellent option after a day at the beach.
